FOOD PRESENTATION

FOOD

Food is any nutritious substance that people or animals eat & drink. It can be consumed to provide nutritional support for an organism. Foods are usually obtained from plants and animals. It contains the necessary nutrients. It is also found in raw materials and also found in developed conditions. Food is mostly made up of individual elements water, lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates.  Minerals and organic substances like salts and vitamins can also be found in food. Plants, algae, and some microorganisms use photosynthesis to make their food molecules. Water is also found in many foods, water has been defined as food by itself.

Sources of Food

Plants and animals are important sources of food for all the organisms on earth. Food obtained from animals is the main source of protein. It includes fish, milk, meat, poultry, and cheese. Plants also provide us with fruits and vegetables which is the most important source of fiber, proteins, and carbohydrates. Food forms a web of interlocking chains with the primary producer. Other aspects of the web include detrivores (that eat detritus) and decomposers (that break down dead organisms.

Presentation of FOOD

Pleasing and eye-appealing food presentations can encourage people to consume food. A common saying is that people “eat with their eyes”.  Food presented cleanly will encourage a good flavor, even if unsatisfactory. Texture plays a crucial role in the enjoyment of food. Textured food such as something crunchy in an otherwise smooth dish, may increase the appeal of eating it. Common examples include adding granola to yogurt, adding croutons to a salad, and toasting bread to enhance its crunchiness for a smooth topping, such as jam or butter.

What if the presentation of food is as good as it tastes?

The first impression of food is taken with eyes. Before tasting the food, we see it. Visuals of food have a significant impact on someone’s senses. Therefore, physical inception plays a pivotal role in food appreciation.

Food presentation is the art of modifying, processing, arranging, or decorating food to enhance its aesthetic appeal. Food decoration is the process of displaying and improving its presentation. It adds to the value of the eating experience. When it comes to sensible eating, seeing our food is essential. You can get more creative in many ways, like ideas in mind coming out to present your food. Food presentation gives an idea about food’s taste, incense, and texture. That is why creating a beautiful presentation that looks amazing is an art. The study reveals that people like those food items that look great in pictures and give satisfaction.

The way you present your food. Is it what tempts customers to try a dish?

In short, yes

We eat with our senses, what we see, smell, and feel. In the age of Instagram and food bloggers, food plating and presentation matters more than ever. Food presentation can make a dish taste better.

A study from Oxford astrophysicist, Professor Charles Spence, suggests that the food presentation can make a dish taste better.

In the study, Spence asked people to 3 salads and asked them to rate each one before they ate them. The salads used the same ingredients but presented them in different ways. One salad was put together with no regard for presentation, one was neatly arranged, and the third was plated to resemble a painting by artist Wassily Kandinsky.

It was the salad that resembled a painting.

Diners thought it tasted better (29% tastier to be precise), even though it used the same ingredients.

Spence’s study decides by reasoning to draw or come to a conclusion that consumers were willing to spend as much as three times more on a well-plated dish.

Even primary dishes like a salad can benefit from the thoughtful.

So how can you use that information to your advantage?

Each technique focuses on five key food presentation factors: color, arrangement, balance, texture, and how to present it.
